My Story ........

I began breeding Texels after I retired from my joinery business about 10 years ago. At the time I was living in Aberdeen but after my retirement I sold our house in Dyce and bought Stoneygate Farm, Hatton, Peterhead. My wife Vera and I moved there and that is when I decided to breed sheep.

I was attracted to Texels after attending a pedigree sale with a Texel breeding friend. Since then I have become more interested in the pure Dutch Texel and purchased sheep of both sexes from a variety of Dutch Texel breeders. On a visit to the Ruthin sales in North Wales I came across a huge Dutch ram being sold by Mr Ritter of the Penine flock, Penine Lovejoy. My friend threatened me with execution if I did not buy this fantastic ram so when he came into the ring I just kept nodding until he was mine.

I have now had semen taken from him and I am offering it for sale. As it was late in the season when he came to me most of my ewes were already served, but I did manage to put him to a few ewes. I am really looking forward to his first crop of lambs to be born at Stoneygate.
